History

Our faculty was established in 1992 under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences affiliated with Sakarya University. By the decree no. 5868 adopted on 25 July 2022, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed, and two faculties, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science were opened instead. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences operates in 12 different departments, including History, Sociology, Philosophy, Geography, Psychology, Art History, Social Work, Turkish Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, Translation and Interpreting, English Language and Literature and Oriental Languages and Literatures. The Institute of Social Sciences carries out the master's and doctoral programmes of the students of our faculty, and there are 35 departments in total. 
Our faculty is established on an area of 12,640 m² and continues its education and training activities. As of the 2023-2024 academic year, 2709 undergraduate, 671 graduate and 227 doctoral students continue their education and training. There are 165 academic staff and 23 administrative staff in our faculty. 
In our faculty, our students can participate in domestic and international educational mobility with Erasmus, Farabi and Mevlana exchange programmes. Our students can study at other universities for one or two semesters. Our students can also benefit from overseas education and internship mobility opportunities.​
